Armenia highly appreciates Georgia’s efforts aimed at strengthening stability and security in the South Caucasus, as well as supporting the normalization with Azerbaijan, President Vahagn Khachaturyan has said.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili in Yerevan, President Vahagn Khachaturyan said Armenia welcomes Georgia’s initiatives to create trilateral cooperation formats between Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan.
He said the relationship between Armenia and Georgia has intensified.
“The interstate relations between Armenia and Georgia are based on the logic of strategic partnership, democratic values, the sovereignty of our states, the common Christian value system of our two friendly peoples and a vision for a common future,” President Khachaturyan said.
The establishment of strategic partnership paved the way for deepening the mutually beneficial cooperation, he said.
The president attached importance to the statements by Armenia and Georgia on recognizing each other’s territorial integrity as a factor for strengthening stability and peace in the South Caucasus.
He said he discussed with his Georgian counterpart a broad range of items on the bilateral agenda, including matters pertaining to the political, economic, educational, cultural, sports and youth sectors.
“Certainly, we also discussed the issues of establishing regional stability and lasting peace. Armenia is determined to advance the agenda of peace and will continue to be constructively engaged in the peace process,” the Armenian President said.
Mentioning that the text of the peace agreement with Azerbaijan has been finalized and is ready for signing, the Armenian President said Yerevan expects that it can establish comprehensive peace with Azerbaijan.
“Armenia highly appreciates Georgia’s efforts aimed at strengthening stability and security in South Caucasus, as well as supporting the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process. We welcome Georgia’s initiatives on creating trilateral platforms for cooperation and we value Georgia’s role in finding common grounds for cooperation and implementing common economic projects,” the Armenian President said.
He said the discussion also featured international issues, such as geopolitical developments and regional prospects.
President Khachaturyan expressed confidence that Armenia and Georgia will continue to deepen and strengthen partnership.
