Our grand goal is not getting elected but the institutional development of the state - Prime Minister

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan considers the continuous postponement of reforms the main obstacle for their implementation.

During a Q&A session with Cabinet members in parliament, Pashinyan explained that the government has repeatedly delayed reforms for various reasons.

"Recently, I sent an upset email to a group of colleagues, saying: if there were an international ranking for procrastination, our government would be at the top. What we do best is procrastination. We adopt all possible reforms, we make plans, but when the deadline approaches, we say, ‘Let’s postpone it,’” Pashinyan noted.

He emphasized that many of the government’s reforms should have been implemented long ago but were repeatedly delayed due to various factors, including the COVID-19 pandemic, war, post-war challenges, and elections.

"Our grand goal is not getting elected, our grand goal is the institutional development of the state. I am deeply convinced that what we are doing serves that purpose,” Pashinyan stressed.

The Prime Minister also underscored the need to engage the public in reforms, making them allies in initiatives such as the universal declaration system, as well as transportation and tax reforms.

"We should not create barriers. Instead, we must prove to the public that all these reforms are being carried out for their own benefit," Pashinyan concluded.
