Armenia considers blocking Russian state TV broadcast after unacceptable content

Armenia could suspend the broadcast of a Russian TV program after it aired narratives against the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Minister of High Tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan told reporters that Russian state television host Dmitry Kiselev made artificially generated unacceptable narratives against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Armenia during his show.

Hayrapetyan told reporters that the program aired on Russia-1 state channel was the reason behind summoning the Russian envoy and handing a note of protest.

“The program featured artificially generated unacceptable narratives against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Armenia. This is the reason that the ambassador was summoned to the foreign ministry today for handing a note of protest,” Hayrapetyan said.

The minister recalled that the Russian channel had aired similar unacceptable contents earlier, which was subsequently suspended in Armenia.

“We have an impression that our television audience doesn’t particularly miss that program. Just like in case of the other program, the Dmitry Kiselev program could also be suspended in our country,” the minister said.
