Armenia to join the 2025 EEU Summit in Minsk remotely

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 26, ARMENPRESS. The Armenian delegation will not travel to the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) summit to be held in May 2025 in Minsk, Belarus. Instead, the delegation will participate remotely.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan made this announcement during the session of the Supreme Council of the EEU, responding to Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko's proposal to hold the next session of the council in Minsk.

The Prime Minister stated that Armenia does not oppose the decision but will join the session remotely. He reiterated previous statements regarding his visits to Belarus, emphasizing that his stance remains unchanged.

“I do not think this is the appropriate format for discussing these issues,” Pashinyan noted in response to Lukashenko’s proposal.

On June 13, 2024, Prime Minister Pashinyan declared that neither he nor any official representatives of Armenia would visit Belarus while Alexander Lukashenko remains president.

"One of the heads of the CSTO states says that he participated in the preparation of the 44-day war, encouraged, believed, and wished for the victory of Azerbaijan. After that, should I sit with Lukashenko in the CSTO format to discuss any issue?," said Pashinyan.

However, Pashinyan acknowledged that Armenia’s participation in EEU and CIS activities necessitates engagement in some capacity.

“I firmly state that I will never visit Belarus while Alexander Lukashenko is president. At this moment, I also declare that no official representatives of Armenia will visit Belarus,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
