EEU focused on development of North-South International Road Corridor

MOSCOW, DECEMBER 19, ARMENPRESS. In 2024, the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) actively worked with the Eurasian Economic Commission in the direction of implementing the comprehensive program on developing Eurasian transport corridors, adopted by the organization’s decision-making body in the end of 2023, Eurasian Economic Commission Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Arzybek Kozhoshev has said.

“Transport links between the union’s member-states are on the high level. I find it noteworthy that, for instance, the EEU is 4th in the world by lengths of roads, and 3rd by lengths of railways. The Eurasian transport corridors have access to the Baltic Sea and the Red Sea, Europe, China, Iran, Arab countries and India,” the minister told Armenpress, noting that major research has been conducted, including pertaining to the development of transport infrastructures and, among others, development of common requirements in relation to the corridors.

Special attention is paid to the development of the North-South International Transport Corridor as a primary direction for development of overall EEU cargo shipments.

“Active work is underway for the development of that corridor, elimination of bottlenecks, and creation of uninterrupted logistics. We are working in the direction of developing this corridor’s three main railways, the Transcaspian, Western and Eastern. In 2024, the list of primary infrastructure projects was expanded to include 11 projects. These include one project from Armenia, two from Belarus, three from Kazakhstan, three from Kyrgyzstan, two from Russia. It is about construction and reconstruction of roads, creation, electrification and modernization of railway infrastructure,” the EEC minister said, adding that the work will result in uninterrupted transit and greater stability in logistics for member-states.
