YEREVAN, DECEMBER 6, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has met with Stephane Dion, the Canadian Ambassador to France and Monaco and the Canadian Prime Minister's Special Envoy to the European Union, Europe and Armenia.
PM Pashinyan welcomed Mr. Dion’s visit to Armenia and underscored his role in the steady development of the Armenia-Canada relationship, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a readout.
PM Pashinyan attached importance to the expansion of ties with Canada in various areas and Canada’s support to advancing democratic reforms in Armenia.
The PM emphasized that public administration reforms, development of institutional capacity and reforms in the judiciary are of strategic significance for the Armenian government.
Stephane Dion said that Canada welcomes the Armenian government’s steps in the reforms of human rights protection, strengthening democracy and in other areas, and expressed readiness to continue supporting Armenia.
The Canadian Prime Minister’s special envoy said that the opening of the embassy in Armenia will contribute to the development of bilateral cooperation in the economy, high technologies, education and culture, among others.
The sides also discussed the implementation of joint projects in various directions.
They also exchanged views on the latest developments around the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace treaty. In this context PM Pashinyan touched upon Armenia’s stance in various issues. Mr. Dion said that Canada supports the Armenian government’s efforts aimed at peace.
