SOFIA, OCTOBER 19, ARMENPRESS. The Armenian ARMENPRESS and Bulgarian BTA news agencies will intensify news exchange with the signing of a cooperation agreement on October 19 in Sofia.
The agreement was signed by ARMENPRESS Director Narine Nazaryan and BTA Director Kiril Valchev.
Noting that ARMENPRESS and BTA are cooperating since 2004, ARMENPRESS Director Narine Nazaryan emphasized that the agreement will lay new and solid foundation for further partnership.
“At the proposal of my colleague Kiril Valchev, we agreed to share news with a principle of "a news per day" from each country. This agreement will allow our countries to be closer to each other, build a new history of friendship with the main goal of strengthening trust, making societies more aware of one another,” Nazaryan said, emphasizing that ARMENPRESS is attaching importance to expanding its network of international partners and noted that the news agency has cooperation agreements with over 25 news agencies from different countries. “This year alone, we have signed agreements with the Argentine Telam news agency, Qatar news agency, Italian ANSA. This is a step to be closer to the world, exchange of news is a tool for mutual recognition.”
BTA Director Kiril Valchev highlighted the fact that the agreement is being signed during Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan’s state visit to Bulgaria. He said that the agreement with ARMENPRESS is BTA’s seventeenth agreement with a partner news agency. Valchev said that in addition to news exchange the agreement will be the basis for implementing exchange of journalists from BTA and ARMENPRESS.
“We are connected by many things. The Bulgarian and Armenian peoples, called by Yavorov "always brave people", are also linked by a common Christian faith,” Valchev said, referring to the quote by renowned Bulgarian poet PeyoYavorov. “There is symbolism in the fact that the agreement between our news agencies was signed on the Day of the heavenly patron Saint Ivan of Rilski, who called on us to live in accord and harmony. There is a wonderful Armenian saying that "today's word is tomorrow's bridge". I believe that we will build many new bridges between us.”
