Armenia-EU framework agreement talks proceed quite successful – German Ambassador

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 22, ARMENPRESS. Talks around the Armenia-EU framework agreement are proceeding quite successful. The next stage of the negotiations are set to be held in December, Ambassador of Germany to Armenia H.E. Matthias Kiesler said.

“An active process is observed after a somewhat passive summer stage of talks. In terms of when it will be singed I can’t say, however there is a signal from the Armenian side that the agreement most probably will be signed in spring of next year. Just the fact that such an agreement will be signed is already a success. It is a signal from Armenia to Europe that it wants to go by the path of modernization, reforms, and that the EU is an important partner on that path. I am convinced that the EU, as well as separate member states are even more interested in making new signals for this cooperation, this to-be-signed agreement”, the Ambassador said.

The Ambassador underscored that it is this kind of news that can contribute to European businessmen to realize their projects in Armenia.

Regarding visa free regime with the EU, the Ambassador said he accepts the desire of Armenian citizens to travel to Europe without procedures, however it’s not yet clear when the dialogue will start with Europe.

“As an advice, relying on previous experience, I can say that several pre-conditions exist for facilitating visa procedures. Meaning prior to launching official dialogue on visa facilitation the given country can take several steps. It will ease the process of passing to official path”, he added.

Asked about the expansion of the capacities of OSCE Personal Representative of the Chairperson-in-Office Andrzej Kasprzyk, and introduction of investigative mechanisms (NKR), the Ambassador said: “The subject is important not only for the German chairmanship of OSCE, but also personally for Steinmeier. The German chairmanship will use the remaining time for finding complete solutions of this issue”.
