Former President Serzh Sargsyan summoned to Anti-Corruption Committee

Former President Serzh Sargsyan has arrived at the Anti-Corruption Committee headquarters in Yerevan after being summoned to the law enforcement agency.

Speaking to reporters outside the Anti-Corruption Committee, Serzh Sargsyan said that he was not yet aware of the case in connection with which he had been summoned.

Sargsyan was summoned shortly after former President Robert Kocharyan was charged with abuse of official powers (three counts), accepting a particularly large bribe (two counts), and particularly large-scale money laundering (four counts) in a corruption investigation.

The Prosecutor General’s Office said that criminal prosecution had also been initiated against nine other people, including Serzh Sargsyan.

Kocharyan was arrested earlier in the day. The Anti-Corruption Committee said it would submit a motion to the court to remand him in custody.

Kocharyan had felt unwell while at the Committee and was taken to a hospital by ambulance for a checkup.
