PM Pashinyan touches upon Armenia’s foreign policy goals

YEREVAN, AUGUST 27, ARMENPRESS. The goal of Armenia’s foreign policy is to ensure the country’s sovereignty and security, consistently raise the level of this sovereignty and security and form a more favorable foreign environment for the security and welfare of the country and its citizens, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at the meeting of the Armenian Ambassadors in the foreign ministry.

According to the PM, in order for this to take place, Armenia’s voice, positions, approaches and goals must be more visible, heard and acceptable for the world.

“Thus, the task of Armenia’s foreign policy is formulated: that is to raise the subjectivity and reputation of the Republic of Armenia in international relations. Do we have preconditions and opportunities for this? Definitely yes, and let me state that one of the key facts for solving this task is the 2018 peaceful, velvet and democratic revolution in Armenia which became a global event, and the diplomatic representations of Armenia must have use this fact to raise awareness on Armenia and its reputation across the world. The 2018 Armenian revolution is not about a person, a political team or group, it’s about the country, state and people, the degree and potential of the people and state, it should be properly presented to the whole world, this time not just as a media report, but as information characterizing the country. In my personal belief this information is an irreplaceable measure to make Armenia interesting to the world, especially when in the contemporary world everyone is talking about the democracy crisis. Democracy should become number one visiting card of Armenia’s foreign policy, and our task is to show to the world that democracy is irreversible in Armenia because it is based on not the person, the concrete political circle, but the consciousness, will and aspirations of the people”, PM Pashinyan said.

He said the next principle that should help to raise Armenia’s subjectivity is pan-Armenianism.

“One of our main foreign political difficulties is the perception of a small nation, a small state. Moreover, this problem sometimes finds its place at all levels of our public and state life, starting from the daily life up to the foreign policy. Overcoming this problem of being small is very important for us, and in my opinion its practical solution is the following: Armenian Ambassadors in their accredited countries should be presented not as a representative of a small political group or a ruling elite, or even a small state, but as a pan-Armenian representative, a representative of all-Armenians. All conditions and preconditions exist today for this because the Armenian government has the same level of people’s support in Armenia and the Diaspora, and as we agreed that democracy is irreversible in Armenia, as we have repeatedly announced that the goal of our government is to delete and eliminate the borders between the Diaspora, Armenia and Artsakh, it’s understandable that this situation should be lasting”, the PM noted.
