Pashinyan proposes to Azerbaijan to form a bilateral mechanism for investigating ceasefire violations

YEREVAN, JUNE 15, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan has proposed to Azerbaijan the formation of a bilateral mechanism for investigating ceasefire violations. Pashinyan announced this in the city of Kapan, Syunik Region, during a session of the initiative group of the "Civil Contract" party, referring to recent statements by the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan regarding the violation of the ceasefire regime.

In recent days, we have seen that the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan is spreading information about ceasefire violations by Armenia, which our Ministry of Defense denies.
There can be two options here, or this information can indicate two things.

In one case, there is indeed a violation of the ceasefire regime; in the other, this information is being used as an attempt to escalate the situation or to create a backdrop for escalation. In all cases, neither the first nor the second is our political will. I have already stated that the Ministry of Defense of Armenia denies this information on behalf of the government.

"But I also believe that this situation requires a certain solution, and in order to really find out the truth every time, not only unilaterally, but also for the international community as a whole, it would be good if we formed a bilateral mechanism with Azerbaijan to investigate violations of the ceasefire regime.

Moreover, these could be the military prosecutors and relevant authorities from both sides," Pashinyan said.

According to him, with political will and agreement, it would not be difficult to launch such a mechanism.

"All this can be done without bureaucratic obstacles, simply with the appropriate directives from the heads of the countries. I think this could really work," Pashinyan concluded.
