Armenia reaffirms need to develop new Armenia-Council of Europe Action Plan

YEREVAN, 5 MARCH, ARMENPRESS. The Armenia-Council of Europe Action Plan Steering Committee held a meeting in Yerevan on March 5. As the Department of Press, Information and Public Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia reports to “Armenpress”, the moderators of the meeting were Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Karen Nazaryan and Director of the Office of the General Director of Programmes of the Council of Europe Verena Tailor. Among the participants of the discussions were Armenia’s Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe Armen Papikyan, high-ranking representatives of Armenian government agencies participating in the projects that are part of the Action Plan, as well as those responsible for the implementation of those projects within the CoE Secretariat and the Office of the CoE in Armenia.

The participants of the meeting recapped the results of the 2012-14 Armenia-Council of Europe Action Plan in the spheres of human rights, rule of law and democracy. Taking into consideration the effective implementation of the current Action Plan, the participants of the Armenian side reaffirmed the need to develop the 2015-17 Action Plan, taking into consideration the priorities of the Government of the Republic of Armenia and the government’s reforms agenda. On that occasion, Armenia’s partners from the Council of Europe were introduced to the major directions and expected outcomes of the future Action Plan.
