YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 26, ARMENPRESS. For the first time in the history of Armenia such a scale of the political will has been formed against the fight and prevention of corruption. The Corruption Prevention Commission is a result of demonstration of that political will in the fight against corruption, new Chairwoman of the Corruption Prevention Commission Haykuhi Harutyunyan said.

“The Commission has been formed as a result of a political consensus. If we look at the anti-corruption attempts of the past, it’s clear that the main reason for failure has been the lack of the political will.

Not only the ruling force, but also the opposition assumed that responsibility, the balance principles of the three branches of power has also been maintained as we have members from the government, the parliament and the Supreme Judicial Council. The goal of the activity of the Commission is to turn this political will into a reality in practice”, Harutyunyan said.

Haykuhi Harutyunyan has been elected today as Chair of the Corruption Prevention Commission.

Her candidacy has been nominated by the Bright Armenia faction of the Parliament.

Harutyunyan was elected with majority of votes.

There were two candidates nominated for the position – Haykuhi Harutyunyan from the Bright Armenia faction and Edgar Shatiryan from the ruling My Step faction.

The candidates presented their approaches on the Corruption Prevention Commission. Both stated that regardless of who will be elected as Chair, the team and joint work are the most important.
