Catholicos Aram I sends letter to Angela Merkel

YEREVAN, JUNE 3, ARMENPRESS. His Holiness Aram I Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia sent a letter to German Chancellor Angela Merkel immediately after the German Bundestag adopted the Armenian Genocide resolution on June 2.

The Catholicos welcomed the historically significant step of Germany, and called it “Eloquent evidence of Germany’s commitment to human rights, as well as a message to the world, which reminds the past should be approached with responsibility.”

Aram I reminded, the Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia is also a victim of the genocide committed by the Ottoman Empire against Armenians and presented how his predecessors were forced to leave the Catholicosate of the Armenian Church in Sis, which had a history of more than 700 years.

On behalf of the Armenian Apostolic Church and the Armenian people, Aram I expressed his assessment and support to the fight against injustice.
