“Map of Salvation” Armenian Genocide docudrama to be screened in USA

YEREVAN, APRIL 21, ARMENPRESS. The “Map of Salvation” film, which portrays the story of five missionary women during the Armenian Genocide will continue its triumphal success in USA. From May 13 the film will be screened in Glendale, California. Producer and author of the film, founding director of “Man Pictures” studio Manvel Saribekyan informed details about the screening in an interview with “Armenpress”.

“Map of Salvation, a movie about five European women who assisted the Armenian people and saved many lives continues being screened in various countries of the world. Armenian and foreign audiences highly praise the film. The film has already been successfully screened in Armenia, Australia, Iran, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Canada. From May 13 it will be screened in Glendale, California in the MGN.Five Star Cinema Theater”, Manvel Saribekyan said.

According to Saribekyan, the film will be screened in Lebanon and in a number of cities of the state of New York in June.

“Armenian and foreign historians, writers, artists, directors and many others have highly praised the film. The National Academy of Sciences stated that unlike other films, “Map of Salvation” is historically accurate because 13 experts from 8 different countries worked on the project”, Saribeykan said.

He added “As stated by the Director of the Institute of History Ashot Melkonyan and others, the film is aimed not only at Armenian audiences. The film is created on a high level and diplomatically, and aims at foreign audiences, which as a result might promote the Armenian Genocide recognition process in different countries.

Currently, besides English, the movie is also available in Armenian, Russian and French. A contract has been signed with the Russian “Paradiz” film rental company. The company will distribute the film and screen it in CIS and Baltic States, as well as Georgia, South and North Ossetia. The film is nominated for the Armenian President’s 2015 Award.

The film “Map of Salvation”, telling the stories about five missionary women who supported the Armenian people during the Armenian Genocide premiered in 2015. The film was shot in 29 cities of 10 countries. The film is narrated by Finnish historian and author of books about genocide Svante Lundgren.The documentary was directed by Aram Shahbazyan.

The characters of the docudrama are five European humanitarian women: Karen Eppen (Denmark), Maria Jacobsen (Denmark), Bodil Biorn (Norway), Alma Juhanson (Sweden), Hedvig Byul (Estonia). The film is about genocide, but it is presented under the humanitarian context.

The Armenian National Cinema Center, “Armenia” Pan-Armenian Fund, Armenian Ministry of Culture, Organizations of the Diaspora, the Coordinating Committee of the 100th anniversary commemoration events of Armenian Genocide and individuals have contributed to the creation of the film.
