President Serzh Sargsyan’s statement for Mass Media’ over the results of the meeting with Giorgi Margvelashvili
“Respected Mr. President; dear Giorgi,
First of all I express my deep gratitude for the warm reception,
Dear partners,
I am very glad that, during this working visit, we discussed with President Margvelashvili the issues of the agenda of our relations and emphasized new prospects for advancing the bilateral cooperation.
I am convinced that you are informed that I will participate in the Consecration ceremony of Armenian St. George Church held in the historic place of Old Tbilisi. I express my gratitude to the authorities of Georgia for bringing their support for the restoration of that sanctuary.
And we, for our part, display a caring attitude towards Georgian cultural heritage existing in Armenia and their restoration works are underway. I am convinced that only in this way, by showing solicitous treatment to one another’s cultural heritage, we can preserve and multiply our achievements.
Returning to intergovernmental agenda, I have to document with satisfaction that Armenian-Georgian relations have dynamically developed during the last years and have entered a new qualitative phase. The active high level political dialogue between our states and the mutual visits are a brilliant proof of my words. I also attach importance to that reinforcement of bilateral relations is carried out under the conditions of total mutual trust.
We discussed with Mr. President the strategic plans that we set together. I would like to highlight the construction of Bagratashen-Sadakhlo“Friendship Bridge”. I am sure that by joint efforts we will successfully complete it and all other programs, creating additional stimulus for the progress and economic growth for our countries.
It is beyond doubt that both Armenia and Georgia have enough potential to deepen economic cooperation, fulfilling their commitments enshrined in intergovernmental documents. Moreover, I am convinced that engagement in different integration processes by our countries not only do not impede by also boost the opportunities for closer cooperation by outlining new potentials for the implementation of mutually beneficial bilateral and multilateral projects.
Last time we talked to Mr. President in this same hall that Armenia’s membership in the Eurasian Economic Union and signing the EU Association agreement by Georgia will have no negative impact on our economic relations but the contrary. And now I am glad to document that our trade rose in 2014 and there is the same trend according to the results of the 9 months of 2015.
Undoubtedly, we discussed with Mr. President issues of regional importance. I want to state that the existing mutual understanding in similar issues is first and foremost conditioned by the sense of fraternity, as well as the ability to think for the long-term. Moreover, the active intergovernmental dialogue based on deep-rooted ties between our peoples, creates serious prerequisites for outlining new directions for close partnership.
Summing up my speech I want to once again express gratitude for the cordial reception on this hospitable soil”.
