YEREVAN, OCTOBER 1, ARMENPRESS. Political scientist Ara Papian considers the announcement of the President of the Republic of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, at the UN over peaceful settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict as very important and correct. “In his speech the President described the situation and highlighted the fact that everything leads to escalation. I think that the main idea of the President was that if Azerbaijan continues the same policy, Armenia will take legal and political measures to ensure the security of Nagorno Karabakh and Armenia”, the political scientist mentioned in an interview with “Armenpress”.
According to Papian, it was important and necessary to express such an idea as it will give Armenia an opportunity to expand the scale of military actions of Armenia more confidently in response to Azerbaijani provocations.
Regarding legal actions, according to Papian, Armenia can declare Nagorno Karabakh its part. From legal viewpoint, it is very obvious that Nagorno Karabakh has never been part of Azerbaijan, as there is no document displaying that Nagorno Karabakh has ever been part of independent Azerbaijan.
The President of the Republic of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, participated in the 70th session of the UN General Assembly, where he gave a speech. Among other topics, the President referred to the border escalation and Azerbaijan’s activities. He particularly mentioned that in case of continuation of the aggressive policy by Azerbaijan, Armenia will have no other option than to take legal-political measures to ensure the security and peaceful development of the Republic of Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh republic.
