Serzh Sargsyan welcomes EBRD’s willingness to expand activities in Armenia

YEREVAN, 11 MAY, ARMENPRESS. On May 11, President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan received the delegation led by President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Suma Chakrabarti.

As the Department of Public Relations and Mass Media of the Structure to the Office of the President of the Republic of Armenia reports to “Armenpress”, Serzh Sargsyan praised the activities of the EBRD in Armenia and the effective and longstanding cooperation with the Bank that has become Armenia’s strategic partner, starting from funding for state programs aimed at developing economic infrastructures and ending with support to SMEs and more than 100 programs for the development of financial markets, public procurement and other sectors. The President of the Republic of Armenia voiced hope that Suma Chakrabarti’s subsequent visit to Armenia would be effective like the last visit and would bring a new sweep to the partnership.

The President of the Republic of Armenia attached importance to the Bank’s participation in the priority and long-term economic projects of Armenia and welcomed the EBRD’s willingness to expand the activities of the Bank in Armenia through the four-year strategy on cooperation.

The interlocutors touched upon the current state of Armenia’s economy, the reforms taking place in the economy, including the efforts that have been made until now for the improvement of the business and investment climates and the upcoming programs. The EBRD President expressed willingness to support the Armenian government’s efforts aimed at improving the business climate with the entire instrumentation of the Bank.
