Minorities in Middle East pass through same hellish path as Armenians and Jews: Serzh Sargsyan

WASHINGTON, 8 MAY, ARMENPRESS. The interreligious prayer dedicated to the memory of Armenian Genocide victims held in the Washington National Cathedral is the vivid example of the consolidation around the international struggle against the genocides. As “Armenpress” reports, on 7 May, the President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan stated this during the Ecumenical ceremony.

"It is symbolic that an interreligious prayer dedicated to the memory of the Armenian Genocide victims is held in this Cathedral. And the words of the psalm will sound on the meeting of kindness and truth and the justice and peace to be spread. Wasn’t it due to the lack of kindness and humanity that 100 years ago 1.5 million Armenians were sacrificed to the slogan "Kill, as he is different”? Was it not the lack of justice and peace to cause the murder of 6 million Jews? Weren’t the genocides of Cambodia, Rwanda, Darfur, which were written in the books of the history, the consequence of the lack of consolidation? Isn’t it due to lack of the unanimity and not taking appropriate steps in time, that today the minorities in the Middle East pass through the same hellish path as the Armenians, Jews, the people of Sudan and the Tutsis? Regrettably, yes. We all have to admit that, as an international community, we do not have reliable mechanisms to prevent such incidents. Furthermore, we see threatening violence in the actions and cynicism in the comments,” Armenia’s President highlighted.
