YEREVAN, JUNE 2, ARMENPRESS. The Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia Hovhannes Manukyan, today on June 2, received the Head of the Armenian Office of the British Council Arevik Saribekyan. As “Armenpress” was informed from the Department of Information and Public Relations of the Ministry of Justice, the details of the project “SupporttoDemocraticGovernance inArmenia”(which is planned to start on June 3), were discussed at the meeting.
Arevik Saribekyan introduced the overall objective of the project to the Minister, which is to foster the process of bringing Armenia closer to the EU and consolidating statehood, democracy and good governance, as set out by the principles of the Eastern Partnership, through support to democratic institutions, civil society and increasing the awareness of the Armenian population on the process of European integration and EU–Armenia relations. The project will aim at: supporting the creation of a sustainable legal and financial framework for the functioning of CSOs; strengthening the capacity of civil society to become more engaged in legal reform efforts and monitoring of the implementation of reforms; strengthening the capacity and professionalism of the media outlets in order to support free and pluralistic media.
Hovhannes Manukyan gave a positive assessment to the first steps of the cooperation of the Ministry of Justice with the British Council and expressed hope that it will be continued. The project “SupporttoDemocraticGovernance inArmenia” is carried out by the British Council, jointly with its partners "Thompson" Foundation, "Civic Development and Partnership" Foundation and "Grant Thornton".
