YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 6, ARMENPRESS: NATO highly estimates the participation of Armenia in International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan. This was declared by Secretary General of NATO Anders Fogh Rasmussen during the conference which followed the meeting with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan. ,,You almost doubled your participation in this mission. Your armed forces have had an important input and their professionalism is highly estimated” noted Secretary General of NATO highlighting that the participation in such mission is crucial for the development of peacekeeping capabilities in own country.
,, I know the challenges, and I have seen with my own eyes the significant progress we are making across the country. By the end of 2014, we will complete our current combat mission there. But our commitment to Afghanistan will continue. After 2014, we will start a new mission to train, advice and assist the Afghan security forces. And I very much hope that Armenia will be part of that support. Your country’s contributions to NATO-led operations mean that Armenian troops have received valuable training and peacekeeping experience. This is an important part of developing your country’s own peacekeeping capabilities, both at home and abroad. NATO is providing significant support to help you build-up these capabilities” said Anders Fogh Rasmussen.
Beginning from 2010 Armenian Armed Forces subdivision has been included in International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan, which is under the command of Federal Republic of Germany, and is responsible for the airport security issues of Kunduz city.
