Sargsyan and Rasmussen are decisive to deepen Armenia-NATO relations

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 6, ARMENPRESS: Armenia is ready and determined to maintain and develop current cooperation level with NATO. Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan came forth with a statement in the course of the joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen on September 6.

''Current security challenges require a comprehensive and integrated approach. I am sure the relations with partner states have substantial role in the success of the Alliance and in the creation of security modern system'' Sargsyan stated. In the words of the President , "Partnership for Peace" framework program states the strengthening of protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms, guaranteeing freedom and justice and insurance of democracy by asserting peace are universal pivotal values for partnership: reportedly in real the project had significant role in the democratization process of our country. Serzh Sargsyan however noted with regret ''We witnessed the violation of above mentioned principles within "Partnership for peace" program, which surely must not throw a shadow on the Armenia-NATO relations.Sargsyan noted NATO Partnership Action Plan's 2011-2013 third document is in the implementation phase. The Alliance enabled Armenia to show its contribution to the international security system. Currently Armenia is participating in peaceful operations in Afghanistan and Kosovo, administered by NATO, Armenpress reports.

Anders Fogh Rasmussen stated his visit to Armenia shows NATO is committed and will go on its assistance in regional stability and peace strengthening actions in South Caucasus. ''We high estimate the relations with Armenia striving for years. We appreciate your constant support in Afghanistan mission. Previous year you doubled your participation in the mission and recently again joined it . Your troops have very serious and important contribution and reportedly their professionalism is estimated '' Rasmussen told adding mission participation is important for the development its peacekeeping capabilities. ''Currently there is an opportunity to establish a more powerful partnership which will be for the benefit for the entire region’’ Rasmussen underscored.
