US Embassy deputy chief of mission visits Martuni

Andrew Johnson, Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Armenia, visited Martuni municipality in Gegharkunik region as part of the “Promoting Citizen Engagement in Conflict-Affected Regions” programme, initiated by Democracy Today NGO with support from the US National Endowment for Democracy (NED).

According to the Martuni municipal administration, Johnson met the head of the municipality, Hovhannes Hoveyan, during the visit.

The US Embassy’s deputy chief of mission also met around 70 Martuni residents, giving them an opportunity to ask questions and express their views on regional developments, including the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” initiative.

During the discussion, Johnson reaffirmed the importance of Armenia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty in the context of the ongoing peace process in the region.

The visit gave residents an opportunity to engage in direct dialogue with an international partner, highlighting the importance of informed public discussion, civic participation and community engagement on issues affecting Armenia’s peace, security and development.
