GYUMRI, OCTOBER 28, ARMENPRESS:The second Local Democracy Agency (LDA) in South Caucasus opened today in Gyumri.

Local Democracy Agencies support democracy and local self-governing bodies, facilitate participation of civil society in the process of adoption of decisions at local level. The LDA will be a bridge between Europe and Armenia. This is the second LDA office established in South Caucasus by the Association of Local Democracy Agencies (ALDA) and with the support of local and territorial authorities of the Council of Europe.

Before opening of the office, a conference was held with participation of representatives of local authorities, NGOs and international organizations. During the conference it was noted that the main goal of opening of this office is to support democratization processes in Armenia and country's development.

After the conference a memorandum of mutual comprehension was signed between the partner organizations.

An analogous office is intended to open in Ijevan, too. ALDA has a goal to expand its activity in South Caucasus, opening an office in any Azerbaijani town as well.
