The Armenian government decided on Thursday to allocate around 8.9 billion drams ($24.6 million) for medium repairs of roads of state significance.

The program covers 21 road sections with a total length of 176.1 kilometers.

Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Davit Khudatyan said at the Cabinet meeting that 113.2 kilometers of interstate roads, 33.6 kilometers of republican roads, and 29.3 kilometers of regional roads are planned to be repaired.

The sections to be repaired include parts of the Margara-Vanadzor-Tashir, Yerevan-Sevan-Ijevan, Vanadzor-Alaverdi, and Sevan-Martuni-Vardenis roads, as well as other roads of regional and republican significance.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan asked whether they would be able to repair 500 kilometers of roads this year, and Khudatyan said they would.

“We will definitely complete 500 kilometers this year,” the minister said, adding that work has already been carried out on around 310 kilometers of roads.

During the discussion, the Prime Minister also addressed the Nrnadzor road. He explained that, given the low traffic volume, a single layer of asphalt would initially be laid on the road. The need for further work will also be assessed based on changes in traffic volume.

Pashinyan stressed that the increase in the volume of road construction must be accompanied by continuous improvements in quality.

“Our main focus is quality,” the Prime Minister emphasized.

Khudatyan also explained the purpose of the equipment acquired to test asphalt quality, noting that the testing enables the quality of materials to be checked and helps ensure the durability of roads.
