Armenia will introduce a unified electronic information management system for the sports sector to improve data management and support policymaking, with AMD 20.4 million allocated for its development.
There is currently no unified database or information management system in the sector.
“At the previous stage of the project, the necessary legislative changes were implemented, while the work has now moved to the actual development stage of the system. The new system will gradually become a registry for the sports sector and will be used for maintaining statistics, developing sectoral policies, informing decision-making, financing processes, as well as monitoring and oversight,” Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan said at the Cabinet meeting.
The Minister noted that the first component of the system is the digitization of the activities of sports schools.
“This will make it possible to maintain unified and clear statistics on children and young people engaged in sports, as well as track their athletic progress. The second direction is the digitization of data on high-performance sports and the activities of sports federations. It is envisaged that applications for funding from federations and the calculation of funding amounts will be carried out digitally. This is expected to contribute to greater transparency and accountability in the processes. The system will also make it possible to track athletes’ careers. This data may be of significant importance in various decision-making processes, including within the [military service] deferment system. At the same time, it will be possible to obtain a comprehensive picture of the results achieved by Armenia’s national teams at world and European championships and the dynamics of their performance indicators,” she said.
As the third component, the Minister noted that data will also be collected on mass sports.
“This will make it possible to track physical activity levels among the public, including gym attendance. In the future, this data could also serve as a basis for linking the system with relevant mechanisms in the health insurance sector,” Andreasyan added.
