Tropical air masses from Iraq that have brought a heat wave to Armenia over the past three days will begin to retreat on the evening of August 27, as a cyclone moving in from the Black Sea reaches the country.
Deputy Director of the Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center Gagik Surenyan said on Facebook that short-term thunderstorms and rain are expected in most parts of the country on the evening of August 27, as well as during nighttime and afternoon hours from August 28 to 31.
“In some areas, the rain will be heavy, and hail is also possible. Winds are expected to strengthen to 20-25 m/s during thunderstorms. From August 27 to 30, daytime temperatures will gradually drop by 7-9°C across the country compared with August 26,” Surenyan said.
He added that on August 29 and 30, daytime temperatures in the country’s hottest areas — the Ararat Valley, Yerevan and low-lying areas of Syunik — will not exceed 30-32°C.
