Investigators have raided the residence of Narek Karapetyan, the nephew of business tycoon and Strong Armenia Alliance leader Samvel Karapetyan.

“Investigative actions are underway as part of a criminal case,” Investigative Committee spokesperson Kima Avdalyan told Armenpress.

Narek Karapetyan was elected a Member of Parliament in the June 7 elections.

On July 22, the Central Electoral Commission approved the prosecutor’s motion to initiate criminal proceedings against him on charges related to allegedly bribing people to attend rallies and money laundering. The case is connected to an investigation into another prominent Strong Armenia member, Alik Aleksanyan, who is also under arrest.

A court approved the prosecution’s motion to impose a travel ban on Karapetyan earlier in July, opting not to remand him in custody but setting bail at 1 billion AMD (approximately $2.73 million).
