Minister gives details on North-South Road construction progress

Within the framework of the construction of ‘North-South’ Road, all construction work on the section leading to Gyumri has been fully completed, David Khudatyan, Armenia’s Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure has said.

"In the coming days, work on the installation of the lighting network in that section will also be completed. The network itself has already been laid, and now the connections will be made, after which the road will be fully opened for use," Khudatyan said.

According to him, intensive construction work has been carried out on the southern section. In particular, on the Kajaran–Agarak stretch, the current completion rate stands at over 40 percent.

"At present, this construction is considered the largest in Armenia, and throughout 2025, we carried out an average of about 65 million AMD worth of work per day there, with around 700 workers and more than 240 units of equipment," the minister said.

According to Khudatyan, excavation work on one of the two tunnels in the section has already been completed, while significant progress has been made on the other.

The minister said that one of these tunnels is considered the longest tunnel in Armenia which has been excavated from scratch.

The section also includes the construction of 15 bridges, 14 of which are currently under construction.

The bidding process for the Kajaran Tunnel construction has concluded, and the corresponding contract will be signed soon. In parallel, work is underway on the approaches to the tunnel. According to Khudatyan, the main construction work on the Kajaran Tunnel is scheduled to begin in 2026.
