Germany to streamline visa procedures for Armenian citizens, says PM Pashinyan

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that Germany will facilitate the visa procedure for Armenian citizens amid the ongoing visa liberalization dialogue between Armenia and the EU.

“We learned some very important news yesterday in Berlin. The Ambassador of Germany to the Republic of Armenia said that starting next year there will no longer be queues at the German Embassy,” Pashinyan told reporters in Hamburg.

He did not elaborate, but in a broader sense the Prime Minister said that the government is focused on facilitating visa procedures for Armenian citizens traveling to EU countries.

Pashinyan said his administration has been working on this issue for quite a long time with partners in the European Union, presenting the concerns of citizens who are forced to wait 10 months to obtain a visa. He added that the first response has now come from the Embassy of Germany and expressed hope that the process will continue in a chain reaction.

The Prime Minister recalled that in recent years the flow of tourists from Armenia to the EU has noticeably increased, despite the difficulties in obtaining visas. As an example, he mentioned that airline tickets once seemed inaccessible to many due to their high cost, whereas now it is possible to buy a ticket on the market for 35 or 50 euros. This, in turn, encourages citizens to travel to Europe more frequently.
