Vice Speaker of Parliament Hakob Arshakyan (Civil Contract Party) said during debates on reducing the duration of mandatory military service that the bill reflects the establishment of peace.

“The discussion of the bill to reduce the duration of mandatory military service by six months reflects the fact that peace has arrived—it is present today—and this is also reflected in the policies adopted by our defense ministry, under which the duration of mandatory military service is being reduced to 18 months,” said Arshakyan.

He noted that the military offers broad career opportunities for servicemembers and urged the Defense Minister to further enhance them.

Lawmakers are debating the Defense Ministry’s bill to reduce the duration of mandatory military service from the current 24 months to 18 months.
