Since the beginning of US President Donald Trump's administration, the American side has shown active interest in the "Crossroads of Peace" project and in making investments in it, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said while answering media questions in Washington.
Responding to a question on why the negotiations with Azerbaijan took place under US mediation and whether Armenia would have negotiated if such a proposal had come from Russia, Pashinyan emphasized that all partners, including Russia, had been offered the opportunity to invest in the "Crossroads of Peace" project.
According to him, the negotiations in Washington took place within the framework of the United States' active interest in investing in the project.
“This is an important nuance, because during talks with Azerbaijan in Abu Dhabi we did not decide that we could not negotiate in a bilateral format. Rather, this process has a slightly different meaning, as it focused on the active desire of the United States to invest in the ‘Crossroads of Peace’ project,” he said.
Pashinyan noted that the same proposal achieved as a result of the Washington negotiations had also been offered to Russia and other partners.
“Now we are here in Washington because the United States demonstrated activeness.
Both President Trump and his team were involved. We saw a very active and lively understanding from the United States regarding the principles we have set within the framework of this issue, which are the fundamental provisions of the Crossroads of Peace project,” the Prime Minister said.
He stressed that these provisions are based on the principles of territorial integrity, sovereignty, jurisdiction and reciprocity, adding that this was the key reason the direction became active and achieved success.
