Parliament greenlights prosecution of MP suspected of involvement in coup plot

1 minute read

Parliament voted on Tuesday to approve the Prosecutor-General’s motion to strip opposition MP Artur Sargsyan of immunity and indict him on charges of conspiracy to commit terrorism and seize power.

Both opposition factions, Hayastan and Pativ Unem, boycotted the vote but it still passed with 62 votes in favor.

Sargsyan is allegedly involved in the recently uncovered coup plot, according to prosecutors.

He has denied wrongdoing.
