Prosecutor-General Anna Vardapetyan officially asked parliament on Monday to approve launching criminal proceedings against Artur Sargsyan, a Member of Parliament representing the opposition Hayastan bloc.
Sargsyan is allegedly involved in the recently uncovered coup plot, according to prosecutors.
According to law enforcement, the MP conspired to commit terrorism and seizure of power together with other accomplices, namely Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, who is currently jailed.
Vardapetyan said the investigation has obtained sufficient evidence to indict the lawmaker on charges of conspiracy to commit terrorism and usurpation of power.
Sargsyan has denied wrongdoing.
Launching criminal proceedings against a sitting MP requires parliament to strip the suspect of immunity.
