UN nuclear watchdog chief Rafael Grossi said he has written to Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to propose a meeting on the country’s nuclear program.
In a post on X, the IAEA Director General said he welcomed the “announcements on the Iran situation,” referring to the Iranian-Israeli ceasefire.
“I welcome announcements on Iran situation. Resuming cooperation with IAEA is key to a successful agreement. I’ve written to Iranian FM Abbas Araghchi stressing this step can lead to a diplomatic solution to the long-standing controversy over Iran’s nuclear program and proposed to meet soon,” Grossi said.
Iran and Israel have agreed to a ceasefire. Shortly after the ceasefire took effect Israel accused Iran of breaching it and firing missiles. Tehran has denied violating the ceasefire.
Israel has been accusing Iran of seeking to develop nuclear weapons. Iran has said that its nuclear program is entirely for peaceful purposes and has denied seeking weaponization.
