There’ve been no reports about victims among members of the Armenian communities in Israel and Iran amid the ongoing airstrikes between the two countries, according to the Office of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of Armenia.
“Only the editorial office of the Armenian Alik daily [newspaper] in Tehran has been damaged,” Nelly Ghulyan, the spokesperson of the High Commissioner’s office, told Armenpress.
The Office of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of Armenia maintains daily contact with the leaders of the Armenian communities in both Israel and Iran, Ghulyan said.
She said the office so far has not received any requests or calls regarding community members wanting to leave and move to Armenia.
“Regarding requests-applications or calls by our compatriots pertaining to leaving the country or moving to Armenia, so far, we haven’t received such calls, we ourselves have been contacting those in charge of the communities to obtain information. There are frequent problems with internet connection, but we still manage to communicate every day, but there appears to be a problem since this morning,” Ghulyan said.
The Israeli-Armenians are mostly in bomb shelters, while Iranian-Armenians are sheltering in their homes, she said.
The leaders of the Armenian community of Iran have notified the High Commissioner’s office that only one or two families are heading towards Armenia by car at their own initiative.
