President of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan has received the visiting Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili.
The presidents held one-on-one talks and an enlarged format meeting involving delegations.
According to a readout issued by the presidential office, welcoming the Georgian President’s visit, the Armenian President said, “Your visit is yet another testament that we continue the centuries-old traditions that have been formed over the course of millennia and pertain to the friendship of our peoples. I am convinced that our discussions will be continuous and will once again affirm that the dynamic development of our bilateral ties will not stop, and we will constantly introduce new ideas that will contribute to strengthening the friendship of our two peoples.”
President Mikheil Kavelashvili thanked for the warm reception and said, “This is my first visit as president and I am very happy to be here in brotherly Armenia. Indeed, I fully agree that our centuries-old friendship and brotherhood is exemplary and will have continual development.”
The directions for continual deepening of the multilayered relations and enhancement of cooperation in various areas between the two countries were discussed.
The presidents stressed the role of political dialogue and importance of strengthening mutual trust for the benefit of stability and welfare of the two neighbor peoples.
They emphasized the imperative for establishing sustainable and lasting peace in the region, highlighting the need for advancing the agenda of peace as a key precondition for the development of the entire South Caucasian region.
The meeting also touched upon the simplification of procedures of visitations of Armenian and Georgian citizens. In this context, the presidents discussed ensuring the freedom of mutual visits, including the prospect of utilizing the principle of open borders.
Praising the close ties and cooperation between various ministries of both countries, the presidents highlighted the consistent development of parliamentary diplomacy, viewing it as one of the best platforms for strengthening bilateral ties.
The presidents touched upon the centuries-old historical and cultural similarities between the Armenian and Georgian peoples, stressing that this rich legacy is the unwavering foundation for mutual trust, friendship and continuous partnership.
President Khachaturyan lauded Georgia’s mediation efforts aimed at establishing final peace in South Caucasus, highlighting it for forming regional trust and preserving stability.
Mikheil Kavelashvili invited President Khachaturyan to pay a reciprocal visit.
