Armenia, Iran conclude military exercises aimed at strengthening border security

Armenia and Iran held a two-day joint military exercise in their border region to reinforce regional stability and fight terrorism, as well as to strengthen border security.

Brigadier General Seyed Morteza Mirian, senior representative of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, emphasized Iran's policy of respecting the territorial integrity of all neighboring countries, stating, "Friendship with all nations and defense of regional sovereignty are pillars of our strategic doctrine,” according to Mehr news agency.

He highlighted the IRGC Ground Force's full readiness and seamless coordination with the Armenian military in organizing this drill.

Light and heavy weapons, sniper operations, demolitions, and support fire drills were part of the exercise.

Mehr news agency said this joint maneuver comes amid increased regional tensions and is seen as a clear message that Iran remains steadfast in its commitment to peace and cooperation, while preserving its national security and strategic depth. Iran’s collaboration with Armenia, a neighboring country with historical ties, is in line with Tehran's broader policy of regional diplomacy and defense readiness, according to Mehr.

The Armenian Ministry of Defense earlier said the drills would take place April 9 and 10. It clarified that during the joint exercises involving special forces the Armenian troops would hold the drills on Armenian territory, while the Iranian troops would hold the drills on their territory. The drills featured an anti-terror operation scenario during a simulated attack on border crossing point.
