Amid Azerbaijani fake news campaign, Armenia reiterates offer to launch joint investigative mechanism

A senior security official on Thursday reiterated Armenia’s offer to Azerbaijan to create a joint mechanism for investigating alleged ceasefire violations.

Armen Grigoryan, Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia, told reporters that the authorities would notify the public in case of having information pertaining to security threats. He made the comments amid an ongoing Azeri disinformation campaign falsely accusing Armenia of border shootings.

Grigoryan said the Defense Ministry is regularly providing information and refuting the false accusations made by Azerbaijan.

“We continue to work in that direction. Armenia’s proposal on creating a mechanism for investigating border incidents still stands. We continue to speak about this publicly, to work in order to have a mechanism for investigating border incidents,” Grigoryan said.

Asked whether authorities have information about Azeri military buildups near border regions, Grigoryan said , “In case of any information pertaining to Armenia’s security situation we will naturally share it with the public.”

Asked whether there is a risk of a new war, Grigoryan repeated, “If we were to see a threat to the security of the Republic of Armenia we would share it with the public. If we have any information that pertains to Armenia’s security threats, naturally we will share it with the public.”
