EU views Armenia security as part of its own, says MP

The EU has consensus that Armenia’s security is viewed as part of the European family’s security, according to MP Arman Yeghoyan.

MP Arman Yeghoyan, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on EU Integration Affairs, made the comments in remarks at the 4th Meeting of EU-Armenia Parliamentary Partnership Committee in Yerevan. Yeghoyan is the co-chair of the committee.

Yeghoyan pointed out the provision of assistance to Armenia through the European Peace Facility. “The provision of assistance to Armenia through the European Peace Facility showed that the EU has consensus that the security of the Republic of Armenia is viewed as part of the security of the European family. Any instability that started near the EU borders had first of all started in our region. We’ve already seen it once. I think the EU will not allow it to repeat once more,” Yeghoyan said.

The MP attached importance to the deployment of the EU monitoring mission (EUMA).

“This decision was made in a record short period of time. Usually it takes months to discuss and make such decisions. But this decision was made within weeks,” he said, referring to the deployment of EUMA.

EUMA was launched in 2023 at the request of Armenia. The civilian mission observes and reports on the security situation along the Armenian side of the international border with Azerbaijan. In January 2025 the EU extended the mandate of the EUMA for a further two years.
