Armenia is now closely working with the EU, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has said.

Speaking at a Davos 2025 panel discussion, Pashinyan said that tremendous changes took place in 2024 in Armenia’s ties with the EU.

“For example, we commenced the visa liberalization process, that agreement had been on our agenda for many years but we weren’t able to even start talks about that. I hope we will complete the negotiations and swiftly sign a visa liberalization agreement with the EU. Armenia is now included in the European Peace Facility program, which is also very important. The EU civilian monitoring mission is now working in Armenia. We are also in process of implementing the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement with the EU,” the PM said.

Pashinyan said Armenia wants to be closer to the EU also economically but wants to have close economic cooperation with all regional countries too.

“Unfortunately, ever since gaining independence we were in a certain economic isolation, because our borders with Turkiye and Azerbaijan have been closed, and are still closed today. So, to make changes in terms of overcoming these supply chain shocks, we put on the table our project of Crossroads of Peace. It is about making our regional transportation, communication more effective and to create new transport communications not only with Azerbaijan but with Turkiye as well, to deepen cooperation with Iran and Georgia, and it is also about the EU, because when this project will be implemented, we will have new chain routes through Armenia to the EU. It isn’t just a matter for economy, it is also very important security factor, because interdependence is very important factor for security.”

He said the project will work in case a sustainable peace is created with Azerbaijan.
