YEREVAN, JANUARY 9, ARMENPRESS. According to the information available at this time, there are no Armenian citizens among the victims of the fires that broke out in the US state of California on January 7, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ani Badalyan told Armenpress.
“The Consulate General of the Republic of Armenia in Los Angeles is operating normally, and consular services are being provided. On January 8, about three dozen phone calls were received regarding consular matters. The Consulate General is in constant contact with local authorities, particularly the municipalities of Los Angeles and Glendale, as well as community organizations,” Badalyan added.
Fires in California have already claimed five lives, with several injuries reported. In the Palisades region, the fire has spread to more than 2,000 hectares, with no containment in sight, and has destroyed about 1,000 buildings, local authorities previously announced. The forest fires have reached the Hollywood Hills, blazing deep into the historic heart of American filmmaking.
