Trump’s policies polarise the world but also prevent World War Three, says Lukashenko

US President Donald Trump’s policies polarise the world but also prevent World War Three from breaking out, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said at the fourth Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security, TASS reports.
“It is no coincidence that I speak about the Americans so often here. Although they are not in our region, much depends on them. President Trump’s policies polarise the world and, let us admit, attract justified criticism,” the Belarusian president said.
He added that “through his actions, however contradictory they may be, Trump is essentially holding the world back from World War Three, which could take the form of a nuclear war. And there is no escaping that across the ocean.”
According to Lukashenko, Trump has prevented Europeans from starting a nuclear conflict and should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for doing so.
“Trump should be given the Peace Prize simply for preventing Europeans from starting a nuclear conflict,” the Belarusian leader said.
He also said Belarus wanted a swift resolution to the Russia–Ukraine conflict.
“There is no need to escalate tensions anywhere. There is enough oil, gas and other resources for everyone. We need to agree on at least one simple thing: to stop shooting at each other. This is the basis of Belarus’s position on Ukraine. We want a swift, peaceful resolution. After all, the bloody confrontation that has drawn two brotherly nations into this conflict is taking place right on our border,” he said.
Lukashenko said his country had taken in half a million Ukrainians since the start of the conflict.
He also stressed that Russia was fighting virtually the entire West in the Ukrainian conflict and that Minsk was well aware of this.
He said Western countries did not understand the scale of the potential military conflict for which they were preparing.
“Western countries never tire of frightening their populations, particularly now, with a fictitious threat from the east, and are supposedly preparing for war with Russia in 2030. The West probably does not fully appreciate what kind of military conflict this would be,” he said.
Lukashenko also described the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro as “a disgrace”.
