Leading the Way: Another Sustainable Event in Armenia Organized by White Raven and GIZ

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 27, ARMENPRESS. Recently, the term “sustainability” has become increasingly common across the internet. Around the globe, various policies are being developed to promote sustainable development and reduce harm to the planet. While many adopt sustainability practices to keep up with global trends, in Armenia, White Raven has followed a sustainable development strategy from the start, staying true to the values it has embraced as a brand.

As the first and only sustainable event management company in Armenia, White Raven recently organized another sustainable event for GIZ’s ECOserve programme. The ECOserve programme is commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) of Germany, co-financed by the European Union (EU), and implemented by GIZ.

What Is a Sustainable Event? Defining a sustainable event in just one word is challenging, as sustainability can be incorporated into every phase—from planning to execution. White Raven prioritized energy efficiency when selecting venues for the ECOserve event, choosing a location powered entirely by solar energy. To minimize print materials, two large LED screens were installed at the venue, reducing the need for paper-based resources. Additionally, for the exhibition component, printed materials were carefully chosen so they could later be reused in the programme’s office, ensuring they continued to serve a purpose even after the event.

“The events implemented by GIZ must take into account the principles of sustainability. Together with White Raven, we made every effort to ensure that the final event of the ECOserve programme fully adhered to GIZ’s standards for sustainable event management,” noted Alla Berberyan, Team Leader, ECOserve Programme Armenia.

The ECOserve programme focuses on sustainable pasture management, energy efficiency, and renewable energy initiatives, achieving notable results in Armenia. During the event’s organization, every detail was discussed and considered in collaboration with GIZ partners to minimize the volume of printed materials.

“As a programme deeply connected to nature, ECOserve couldn’t host an event without utilizing recyclable materials,” said Armine Udumyan, Co-Founder of White Raven. “It may seem impossible to replace already standardized methods with new, recyclable options, but our team always finds a solution. For instance, the traditional press wall was replaced with a moss-based decoration featuring the ECOserve logo, which was later recycled.”

Instead of thematic notebooks and pens, participants received small plant souvenirs in pots made from recycled materials. These gifts symbolized the core values of the ECOserve programme, which advocates for sustainable solutions and initiatives, sending a message of building a greener future.

“Sustainability is not a trend for us—it’s the future and a global necessity,” noted Avetis Harutyunyan, Co-Founder of White Raven. “From day one, this has been our guiding principle. Innovating in the field of event management is not easy. I am proud to say that White Raven, as Armenia’s first and only sustainable event management company, has brought innovation to this sector and set an example for its partners.”

This initiative not only underscored the importance of “green” practices in event management but also laid the groundwork for environmental responsibility to become a fundamental principle. It aims to inspire companies operating in Armenia to consider the environmental impact of their events and strive for a sustainable future.
