EAEU firmly established as effective integration union, assures EEC Minister

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 7, ARMENPRESS. The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) has firmly established itself as an effective integration union over the past decade, with Eurasian integration continually expanding and deepening. Moreover, improvements to intra-Union legislation and further harmonization of the member states' national legislations have supported this process, Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Minister of Industry and Agro-industrial Complex Gohar Barseghyan has said.

Speaking to Armenpress, Barseghyan noted that all the Union’s fundamental regulatory and legal documents have been adopted over the past 10 years, and work is now underway to expand the adopted toolkit.

“Active work is underway on the Commission's platform to develop a unified transport and logistics infrastructure, introduce new financial support tools, establish supranational legislation, and advance multilateral cooperation programs," said Barseghyan.

According to the minister, the integration agenda is expanding in all areas outlined by the EAEU agreement, influenced by geo-economic changes and continually evolving with new proposals.

“Within the Union, the integrated information system is progressing successfully. Unified standards for electronic data exchange are being developed and implemented, agreed-upon rules for digital trade are in place, an electronic navigation seal system has been introduced for transporting EAEU goods, and a digital goods marking system is operational. The EAEU plays a significant role in the architecture of international economic relations.

In 2020, Cuba and Uzbekistan received observer status in the EAEU, and efforts to grant observer status to Iran are nearing completion. Collaboration between Eurasian integration and the Belt and Road initiative is being carried out with the People's Republic of China, while a friendly dialogue is also developing with BRICS,” Barseghyan said.

On December 25, 2023, the heads of state of the EAEU signed the Declaration on the further development of economic processes within the EAEU until 2030 and for the period up to 2045 “The Eurasian Economic Path”.

Its priorities include establishing a joint economic space and providing a common market for essential goods, resources, services, and food products.

"Currently, specific measures and mechanisms to implement the Declaration are being developed in collaboration with member states,"  the EEC minister noted, emphasizing that the creation of the EAEU was an essential step that supports member countries in overcoming challenges during challenging situations.
