YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 6, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has met with Nobel Peace Prize laureate Kailash Satyarthi.
Pashinyan welcomed Satyarthi’s visit to Armenia and his participation in the Path to Social Justice: Decent Work international conference, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a readout.
The Prime Minister lauded Satyarthi’s work in the direction of fighting child abuse and promoting access to public education, emphasizing that the protection of children’s rights is in the Armenian government’s focus.
The Prime Minister said that the protection and exercise of the children’s right to education, as well as ensuring equal opportunities for education, are key targets of the state educational policy.
Kailash Satyarthi thanked for the warm reception and the invitation to participate in the conference in Yerevan. He praised the Armenian government’s child-centered policies.
The Nobel Peace Prize laureate expressed readiness to continue cooperating in the social area, including in sharing experience in the direction of children’s rights protection.
In 2014, Indian social reformer Satyarthi was the co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, along with Malala Yousafzai, "for their struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education." He is the founder of multiple social activist organizations, including Bachpan Bachao Andolan, Global March Against Child Labour, Global Campaign for Education, Kailash Satyarthi Children's Foundation, and Bal Ashram Trust.
On November 5, Kailash Satyarthi was bestowed the title of Honorary Doctor of Yerevan State University.
