YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 1, ARMENPRESS. Under the leadership of Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, a consultation was held to discuss the draft of the 2024-2026 strategic program for police sector reforms and the resulting action plan.
According to the PM's office, the discussion initially focused on the results of the previous strategy.
The action plan arising from the strategic program aims to improve the quality of public services provided by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, finalize the police management scheme, and implement other key measures. Additionally, the plan includes launching the Criminal Police, Community Police, and Police Guard with new structures and functions, as well as establishing a unified nationwide operational management center.
Steps will be taken to improve the educational environment, police personnel training, professional development, the development of the Patrol Service, and to ensure the rights of individuals deprived of freedom, prevent ill-treatment, and address other key areas.
It was also noted that recently, independent organizations have conducted polls to assess public trust in the Police. According to an OSCE survey conducted in 2024, public trust in the Police stood at 72%, while IRI surveys showed trust levels of 58% in 2023 and 62% in 2024.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of effectively implementing reforms in the Police sector, stressing the need for consistent, ongoing steps to increase public trust.
