YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 23, ARMENPRESS. Armenian Minister of Justice Grigor Minasyan has held a meeting with Ladislav Hamran, President of Eurojust, the European Union Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation.

Minister Minasyan attached importance to cooperation with Eurojust in the criminal justice system in fighting organized crime, terrorism, money laundering, trafficking and other grave crimes.

Both sides welcomed the September 13, 2024 ratification of the agreement on cooperation with Eurojust and highlighted the September 23 signing of the Working Arrangement ensuring the implementation of the agreement.

Minasyan underscored the strong documentational foundation for partnership that has been formed over the past year between Armenia and the EU’s law enforcement and justice bodies. The sides discussed strengthening partnership in personal data protection and other issues of mutual interest.

Eurojust President Ladislav Hamran offered congratulations on the Armenian Independence Day and attached importance to the establishment of partnership between Eurojust and Armenia. He also underscored the importance of Armenia appointing a prosecutor in charge of cooperation in Eurojust and presented directions and possibilities for partnership.

The sides agreed to continue the joint work in the context of reforms in the justice system.

Hamran then met with Prosecutor-General Anna Vardapetyan. During the meeting he said that the working arrangement, which will be signed on September 23, will give Armenia the keys to enter Eurojust. “With this step of joining Eurojust, Armenia, our valuable partner, is sending a very important signal to the world that it is committed to the principles of the rule of law,” the Eurojust president said.

Vardapetyan said joining Eurojust is yet another step towards the European Union.

“I am sure that the agreement will contribute to the cooperation between the authorized bodies of Armenia and foreign states within the framework of Eurojust in fighting organized crime, terrorism, money laundering and a number of other transnational crimes,” Vardapetyan said.
