Armenia crime rate drops

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 12, ARMENPRESS. The crime rate in Armenia in the first half of 2024 dropped compared to the same period of last year, Prosecutor-General Anna Vardapetyan has said.

18,818 cases of crime were recorded in the reporting period compared to 19,891 of the past year’s same period.

Over 80 percent of the crimes were misdemeanors.

Drug trafficking cases dropped 29,3%. 

The number of grave crimes decreased 8,2%, however the number of aggravated grave crimes increased 17,8%. “The increase of the cases of aggravated armed grave crimes is concerning and will become subject of research,” Vardapetyan said at the Cabinet meeting.

Prime Minister Pashinyan told the prosecutor-general to look into statistics of armed crimes in terms of gun control measures.
