Investigation into attempted murder of Ararat Mirzoyan still underway

The preliminary investigation into the criminal case launched in connection with the mass riots in Yerevan on the night of November 9–10, 2020, and the apparent attempted murder of then-Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, by a group of individuals is still ongoing.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Armenia, “based on factual evidence obtained during the preliminary investigation, Ara Badoyan has been charged under Part 2 of Article 225 of the Criminal Code (damaging property during mass riots) and Part 2 of Article 34-225 (attempt to commit group violence during mass riots). Torgom Asatryan has also been charged under the same case for the attempted murder of Ararat Mirzoyan, under Article 24-305 of the Criminal Code.”

The cases involving Badoyan and Asatryan have been separated and submitted to court as individual proceedings. The trial of Torgom Asatryan is still underway, while the trial of Ara Badoyan has concluded. On May 14, 2025, Badoyan was found guilty and sentenced to three years and six months in prison.

“The preliminary investigation into the mass riots and the attempted murder of the then-Speaker of the National Assembly is ongoing,” the statement reads.
